Latest company news about can def fluid expand and crack stainless steel pipe ?

Diesel Exhaust Fluid - also called AdBlue (or AUS 32) - is a urea base solution used by modern diesel engines in order to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. DEF, also known as AdBlue or AUS 32, is stored and transported in containers or tanks designed specifically for the purpose. Due to the potential for compatibility, DEF is usually not transported or stored using stainless steel pipe.

DEF is known not to expand and fracture stainless steel pipes. However, some considerations are important to make:

  1. Material Compatible: Steel is a material that resists corrosion. However, stainless steel may not be ideal for transporting or storing DEF. DEF is very corrosive. It can eat through aluminum and plastics. DEF is typically made out of high-density Polyethylene (HDPE), Stainless Steel with appropriate Coatings, or Special DEF Rated Materials.

  2. Temperature sensitivity:DEF can freeze even at temperatures lower than 12degF. DEF that has frozen can expand, causing damage to containers and pipes which are not designed with this expansion in mind. DEF systems should be designed with provisions for expansion and shrinkage.

  3. Contamination Concerns Because DEF has a high sensitivity to contamination, even small amounts impurities or contaminants will degrade the quality and effectiveness of its product. Unclean and neglected stainless steel pipework can introduce contaminants.

  4. DEF Transport, Handling, and Storage: If you are dealing with DEF it is essential that you follow the manufacturer guidelines. DEF is best stored in a sterile and clean system.

Summary: DEF, by itself, does not cause stainless steel pipes to crack or expand. However, stainless steel storage and transport may not be recommended due to potential compatibility and contamination issues. It is recommended to use materials specifically made for DEF in order to avoid any possible problems and ensure proper performance. Consult the DEF manufacturers' guidelines to learn about best practices and compatibility.
